Decades with the Nightingale Influence
1994 Harley Farms visited the Royal Show and saw Youngdale Hogan. Allan and Rose Harley are specialist beef from grass producers with 600 cows on Sailsbury Plains using Charolais bulls whose progeny were renowned at their local markets. January 1995 they bought 3 Nightingale bulls (25 to date) and over the next few years made comparisons between the Angus and Charolais progeny. As the saying goes “the rest is history”. All the Angus females were kept as replacements so the herd is now nearly pure Angus and organic. A consignment of 17 steers in July 2013 graded U and R’s at +400kgdw to APB to average £2087 AND ALL OFF GRASS

Nightingale Poundman C183

Date of birth : 12th April 2003
s. Ankonian Elixir
d.Nightingale Pride of Pershore S44
s. Young Dale Hogan 3Y

Visiting breeders have described Poundman as the greatest specimen of a bull they have ever seen and at rising 10 years with no blemishes, looking and acting like a 4 year with 600+ natural services to his name – no wonder he is an exceptional specimen. Add to this his calving record – the best of all sires we have used. Without a doubt his sons and daughters at Nightingale are our best ever AND are consistently similar.

His full sister C177 is as youthful as him, doesn’t know what a footman is and has 3 daughters in the herd – 1 is top indexed. His dam Nightingale Pride of Pershore S44 recently died at 18 years so it looks like he has it all – easy calving, longevity, fitness, consistency, performance, fertility, carcase, structure AND style. He is a full brother to Peter Pershore. IT’S ALL IN THE GENETICS.

A full sister to his dam is a successful breeder in the herd and he is fifth generation removed from the supreme Argwen Pride cow that has 16 descendants at Nightingale and at 12 years old Mr Graeme Reid of Nethertallan Peter Pershore fame persuaded us to part with her. Coincidently, Parsons sire Nightingale Poundman is a full brother from the same flush as Peter Pershore! Out of the same cow as Nightingale Playfair who sold to the Lana Herd in Ireland after a short season at Nightingale where he has left strong bulls and very feminine females.

Playfair is by Nightingale Proud Jake who went to the Skaill Herd on Orkney after use at Nightingale and semen drawn for international use. Jake females are proving to be worthy of their place at Nightingale and demand for his semen as exceeded supply.

Nightingale Pirelli M635 -
Another Special One.

Date of birth: 8th January 2012
s. Nightingale Poundman C183
d. Nightingale Pride H414
s. Ankonian Elixir 100

In the last 4 years the 2 top bulls in the breed for growth, carcase milk and indexes are Pirelli and a son of Peter Pershore -who is full brother to Nightingale Poundman, Pirelli’s sire. We compared 600dw. Weight, eyemuscle, retail beef yield, sire and maternal indexes which are most important traits to us.

Pirelli is running with heifers and 2nd calver. He is 8th generation direct descendant from the great GV Pride 30M we important in 1983 and through the generations many stocks bulls have graced pedigree herds. Wedderlie, Skill, Ballamanaugh, Bosullow, Moss, Newcarnie. His dam’s two maternal sisters are also retained, by Lancer and Dudley.
